Box Car Racer

Box Car Racer was an American Post-Hardcore band from San Diego, California, formed in 2001. The band is essentially a side-project of guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge of Blink-182, composed of lead guitarist David Kennedy of Hazen Street, touring bassist Anthony Celestino, and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Driven by a more mature and introspective sound than previous Blink-182 recordings, DeLonge was the primary lyricist of the group and created the group in order to experiment with ideas that were not "Blink-friendly".

DeLonge and Barker formed the band in late 2001 during a break from touring for Blink-182. After recruiting Kennedy, the three recorded their first and only studio album, the eponymous Box Car Racer. The album was a success and the band toured throughout 2002. Tom DeLonge has stated that Box Car Racer "has run it’s course" and is now defunct; DeLonge’s later band Angels & Airwaves has been proclaimed a continuation of Box Car Racer.
